Beverley’s Under-16 girls played a key role in a superb team performance as they helped secure a 50–10 victory over Wolds Warriors in the Yorkshire Plate semi-final, booking their place in next month’s final.
The side, which brings together players from Beverley, Ionians and Castleford, faced a Wolds Warriors team made up of players from Driffield and Malton & Norton. Despite determined opposition, the Beverley contingent helped drive a dominant display built on physicality, teamwork and attacking flair.
One of the standout areas of the game was the scrum, where Beverley’s forwards consistently provided a strong and reliable platform. Their dominance at the set piece allowed the team to control possession and launch a number of effective attacking phases that ultimately kept the scoreboard moving.
Leading from the front was Beverley captain Neve, who produced a standout performance and set the standard for her teammates with a tireless display around the field. Her leadership and work rate helped inspire the side throughout the match in what was described as a belter of a game from the skipper by supporting parents.
Also representing Beverley in the semi-final were Darcey, Aimee, Lily, Alicia, Anna, Summer, Molly and Chloe, all of whom played important roles in a confident and cohesive team performance.
Coach Andrew Meagher praised the effort of the Beverley players after the match, highlighting how much they had developed over the season. “Every Beverley player raised their game to produce the best performance I’ve seen from all of them,” he said. “That’s credit to the effort and dedication they’ve put in during training.”
A huge thank you must also go to the parents and families whose ongoing support makes opportunities like this possible. Their commitment to travelling, supporting from the sidelines and helping the team throughout the season is invaluable. Credit also goes to coach Andrew Meagher, whose dedication and guidance have helped the squad develop and perform at such a high level.
The victory secures the team a place in the Yorkshire Plate Final, where they will face Old Crossleyans RUFC at Yarnbury on 26 April. After such an impressive semi-final display, the squad will head into the final full of confidence and hoping to finish the season with silverware.
Everyone at Beverley RUFC is incredibly proud of the girls’ achievement and wishes them the very best of luck as they prepare for the final.
