U15s Reach Yorkshire Cup Final

11 Mar by Steve Spurgin

Congratulations to Beverley RUFC’s Under 15 team who on Sunday 9th March, played a great game against Huddersfield RUFC, and won 19-7 to secure a place in the Yorkshire Cup Final.

The team were all clinical in their approach and the game ebbed and flowed. Huddersfield’s forwards set a ruck inside the Beverley 10 metre line. Their backs ran a hard line moving the ball to the left drawing out the Beverley defence, leaving an overlap to score left of the posts. On Conversion the score was 0-7. Beverley came back with a strong run and a try from Ed Carlin in the left corner, conversion missed 5-7.

The second half saw the Beavers start to control the rucks. Some strong defending, gave Alfie Lundie a try and Rufus Sherwood a conversion 12-7. Then, with just 2 minutes to the final whistle a ruck was formed with Beverley possession. Alfie Lundie picked the ball from the base of the ruck, side stepped through two tackles, leaving the full back in his wake, successfully delivering a try under the posts and another conversion by Albert Worrall.

We now know that the final will be a repeat fixture versus Huddersfield. The best two teams in each group face off based on wins followed by points difference. Beverley had five wins, Huddersfield & Otley four wins and Wetherby had three wins, Huddersfield with the better points difference.

A well-deserved victory on a lovely day at Beaver Park with great support. Well done to all the players, parents and coaches, Phil Cromie, Dave Worrall, Graham Pittaway and support team.
