Robin Wood Obituary – Captain Beverley RUFC 1965/66 – 1968/69

Mike Archibald & Pat Kilgannon recently attended the funeral of Robin Wood. Robin was the first Club Captain of the newly formed Beverley RUFC, a position he held for four seasons. Robin’s father and grandfather were also prominent playing members of the club as was his brother, Derek.
Robin joined the club after his return home from completing his National Service. His maturity as a leader quickly commandedd his peers and he gelled together a very young set of lads into a team which became a force to be reckoned with. This team made history when they defeated Hull College of Technology by a record score of 96 points in the Yorkshire Cup. This enabled the club’s fixture list to improve more quickly than anticipated.
Alongside this, four team members joined the professional ranks of Rugby League and with success.
We will observe a minute’s silence before kick-off this coming Saturday 13th April, in memory of Robin.
